Join Our Executive Board of Directors
Thank you for your interest in serving on the Executive Board of the Howard University Medical Alumni Association (HUMAA).
1. Act in the spirit of HUMAA’s vision, mission, and values.
2. Together with other board members, steward strong governance:
a. Set goals and long-term organizational strategies
b. Participate in succession planning by recruiting new board members, providing for a Board that remains healthy and regenerative.
3. Contribute to board work:
a. Prepare for each Board meeting.
b. Board members must attend at least three out of four annual meetings in person, or by telephone. The fall and winter meetings are held on Saturday mornings. The spring meeting is held in March. The summer meeting is held during the week of the National Medical Association’s annual convention and is usually done on-site at the convention. Travel to board meetings are done at the board members’ expense and are tax-deductible.
c. Board members are required to serve on at least one Board committee adhering to the same values listed above. The committees include: Budget & Finance, Bylaws, Events, Fundraising and the Scholarship Committee. The President of the Board makes the assignments to these committees.
4. Disclose any potential or actual conflict of interest.
5. Contribute financially to HUMAA.
a. Provide a minimum of $1,000 personal donation (or fundraise) per fiscal year.
b. Thoughtfully leverage personal and/or professional connections to further the Association’s fundraising goals
6. Board Service: Two (2) years
